Geometry (Rm B-1)

Welcome to Geometry class for the 2023-24 school year!

I look forward to working with you to discover and cultivate your / your child's critical thinking abilities, capacity for original thought, and communication skills.

SETTING UP OUR GOOGLE CLASSROOM
We will use Google Classroom (GC) as the primary mode of sharing resources and collecting practice work for our learning community. Practice assignments, task instructions, and important announcements will be posted on this platform. It is free for both students and parents/guardians to sign up.

STUDENTS
All students are automatically enrolled through their school email address in our GC. It is the responsibility of the student to regularly check the page for updates, resources, & announcements.
PARENTS/GUARDIANS
If you would like to receive progress updates, please send an email to [email protected] with the following:
a) your name
b) your child's name
c) the email address you would like to receive GC updates with
We'll then send you an invite to join our GC.

Knowledge is valuable. However, it is imperative to question: Who is creating that knowledge?, Why is it worthy of study?, Can I create knowledge too? In traditional math classrooms, information is accepted without being questioned, but we aim to flip that script by transforming ourselves into authors of knowledge and taking ownership of our mathematical thinking. The highly visual nature of geometry allows for greater access in that we can draw upon intuition and spatial reasoning to identify patterns and describe structures. This class is then an opportunity to practice formulating original thoughts, devising creative solutions based on mathematical evidence, and communicating those to the general public.

  • Recognize and describe individual contributions to the learning space, including participation.
  • Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others (SMP 3).
  • Identify and utilize resources intentionally to facilitate deeper learning and success.
  • Reason spatially and utilize logic to formulate arguments grounded in mathematical evidence.
  • Analyze scenarios involving triangles, circles, and polygons to devise valid, original solutions.
