Hello, my name is Ms. Goodwin, and I am excited to be starting a new school year with you all. : )
Born in China and raised in Chino by my adoptive parents, I am grateful to have been involved in activities like piano, gymnastics, and dance at a young age. At Don Lugo High School, I played tennis, ran track, participated in Key Club and National Honor Society, and tutored peers in math and science. I attended UCLA to earn a B.S. in Applied Math with a minor in Statistics (yes, the food is amazing!). Through the Teacher Education program at Claremont Graduate University, I earned my credential, Master of Education, and developed a social justice awareness. Previously, I taught at El Rancho HS in Pico Rivera and joined the RHS family in 2019. This year will be my fifth at Rowland, and I am elated to learn and work with the dedicated, diverse, and inspiring young individuals of our community. Aside from Geometry, I also teach the IB Math course for seniors in the International Baccalaureate program and advise Link Crew and Do Something Club.
Outside of the education space, I enjoy reading, listening to music, staying active (e.g. tennis, Zumba, exercising), creating (e.g. drawing, poetry, and cooking), and spending time with family (3 people + 4 dogs + 2 birds). Over the pandemic, I picked up painting, pickleball, baking, and taught myself how to skateboard!
Overall, I am a dedicated, caring, and passionate person. When I do things, I do them with all of my heart, effort, and attention to detail. I chose to become a math educator because I wanted to help build young people’s confidence in their math abilities, and I choose to continue serving as a math educator because I want to create spaces where students can empower themselves with quantitative reasoning, communication, and critical thinking skills and practice co-constructing a community infused with equity and love.
