Dress Code

It is our belief that students who are appropriately dressed for school are also ready to participate in the educational process. The following dress code is enforced.  In addition, school principals shall designate other rules or specific definitions of their code for the campus and their students.

The following items are prohibited:

A. Clothing which has been deemed by local law enforcement to be gang, tagger, or crew related such as:

  • unhemmed shorts below the knee
  • extra long T-shirts worn on the outside
  • Pendleton type shirts worn loose, untucked, and buttoned at the neck
  • cloth or webbed belts with metal buckles that may have initials stamped on or through them
  • long belts with the end hanging down in front
  • knee socks worn with shorts below the knee
  • pants which are slit or frayed at the cuff line
  • pants worn below the waist (sagging)
  • bandannas hanging from pockets or clothing
  • pants which do not fit without a belt
  • pants which have been altered to fit around the waist
  • cut off pants – These usually are cut off below the knee
 
B. Clothing with inappropriate messages (e.g., alcohol, cigarette, drug, or profane messages or symbols).
C. Undergarments without appropriate outer clothing. Outer clothing which exposes underclothing, midriff area, and other areas deemed to be private.
D. Swimming attire and clothing which does not cover backs, shoulders or midriffs.
E. Any tank top for both sexes.
F. Attention-diverting attire.
G. Inappropriate or dangerous footwear such as steel-toed shoes.
H. Clothing that is worn on the head (headbands across the forehead, beanies, scarves, hair nets, bandannas, non-RHS hats, etc.).
I. Non-prescriptive dark glasses worn in the classroom.
 
Any student who is believed to be in violation of the dress code will face a consequence which may include, but is not limited to:
  • Confiscation of article
  • Loaner T-shirt
  • Change into appropriate dress
  • Sent home to change into appropriate dress
  • Lunch detention
  • After-school detention
  • Saturday detention
  • Suspension
