Am I eligible to apply?

Look at the UC Eligibility Report included in your packet. Your minimum A-G GPA must be 3.00

When can I start filling out my application?

On August 1, 2021

Which application do I fill out? 

Apply for Fall 2022 if you want to start college right after high school.

When can I submit my application?

Between November 1, 2021-November 30, 2021

How much does it cost to apply?

$70 per campus

Do I get priority admissions if I submit my application on November 1, 2021?

No, you can submit your application anytime between November 1 to November 30. Submitting your application on November 1 does not increase your chances of getting accepted. However, it is not advisable to wait until the last day to submit your application.  

Do I need to fill out an application for every campus? 

You may submit one application for all of the UC campuses you’re applying to.

Can I use my school email on my application? 

No, your school email will be deactivated after you graduate. You need to create an email that you will have access to after graduation. 

The UC application asks for my student ID, is that my 10 digit number? 

No, UC is asking for your 10-digit STATE ID/SSID which can be found on the bottom of your transcript or on your UC Eligibility Report. Do not enter your 10-digit RUSD number.

Do I need to write an essay?

Yes, students will have to respond to 4 Personal Insight Questions (PIQ). Click here for more info. It is an interview on paper, no flowery language, poems, or creativity required.

Do I need a letter of recommendation?

No

Do I need to list all of my classes and grades on my application? 

Look at your UC Eligibility Report to see which classes you should enter on your application. Do not list classes such as PE, Health, ELD, Yearbook, Sports, AVID Tutor or TA.

Can I list my 7th and 8th grade classes?

Yes, but only your math (Algebra 1 and above) and world language classes.

Do I list the pluses and minuses from my grades on my application? 

No, pluses and minuses are not considered or used when calculating GPA. 

Do I list my Honors courses as weighted on my application? 

No, only AP/IB courses are weighted. Courses such as English 9/10 Hon, Bio Hon and World History Hon are not weighted. 

If I made-up a D or an F, do I have to list the D or F on my application?

Yes, list all Ds and Fs in all of your A-G classes even if you repeated the class and earned a higher grade


Which GPA do I list on my application? 

None, UCs don’t ask you to enter your GPA.

Where do I list the Mt. SAC dual enrollment course I took or classes I took at another community college? 

Mt. SAC dual enrollment courses and any other transferable community college courses should be listed in the transferable college courses section. 

Do I need to take the ACT/SAT? 

No, UC will no longer consider ACT/SAT scores when making admissions decisions or awarding scholarships.

If I took the ACT/SAT, do I list it on my application?

Only if you want to. It’s optional.

Do I need to send my ACT/SAT scores? 

No, self-report your scores on your application.

Do I need to take the SAT Subject Tests?

SAT Subject tests are not required. Some UC campuses recommend that freshman applicants interested in competitive majors take the tests to demonstrate subject proficiency. However, the College Board discontinued administering the SAT Subject tests in January 2021.

Do I need to list my AP/IB scores? 

Yes, list all exams you took and the score you earned.

Do I need to send my AP/IB scores?

No, self-report your scores on your application. Official score reports are not necessary until you enroll in college.

Do I need to list awards, clubs, community service and sports?

Yes, if you have any to list. Activities and awards are not required. Knowing what you have done outside of school simply adds to their understanding of you as an applicant.

Do I need to send my transcript? 

No, all grades are self-reported. 

What if I haven’t chosen a major yet? 

Each campus has an option for an undeclared/undecided major. 

What if I need help with my application?

Counselors will be holding weekly college application help sessions at lunch time during the months of October and November. Students can drop in anytime during these sessions to get help with their application.
