Description

ELD 2 class is a developmental class of English which is a requirement for entrance into classes leading to the University system. This class develops language ability that allows students to compete with native speakers for entrance into the university of their choice. This class emphasizes the use of listening, speaking , reading and writing. Students must be able to be proficient in these skills. The ability to speak fluently and with automaticity is a primary goal. Flluency is a key factor and a requirement in promotion to the SDAIE university classes. Students must be able to engage in class discussions demonstrating that they understand and are able to explain and ask questions about the concepts of the class. Students at the intermediate level are able to comprehend information on familiar topics in contextualized settings; produce sustained conversation with others on an expanding variety of general topics; interact independently with a variety of simplified print; write basic information and expanded responses in contextualized settings; comprehend main ideas and basic concepts in content areas; express a variety of personal and safety needs and respond to questions using short sentences; and initiate simple conversations with English speakers outside the school. Students are encouraged to speak and practice English during and after school hours. The practice and use of a language is the most important step in becoming proficient in the use of the language that is being learned. Students who have not demonstrated their ability to speak English with fluency in both social and academic language( be able to use language proficiently in the classroom) will not be promoted to the next level. Students are expected to be able to communicate at a high level of oral and written proficiency demonstrating that they can explain the concepts learned in all of their classes.

Choose an article in News for you.
Rewrite the summary you wrote in the paragraph. Draw a picture beside it.
Write an article about something that happened in Rowland High School, in your neighborhood, on a trip you took, in a class. Write a paragraph about what happened and draw a picture. You will then have created a small newspaper. You can do more articles if wish and have more in your newspaper for people to read.
