SPANISH IThis is a beginning course in Spanish intended for students with no previous knowledge of the Spanish language. This course is entirely based on the California Standards in Foreign Language Education which encompasses the instruction of communication, culture, connections, comparisons and communities. It involves the instruction of the grammar necessary to prepare students to effectively communicate by listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

GENDER
As in English, nouns in Spanish can be either singular or plural. But, unlike in English, adjectives in Spanish can also be singular or plural. Also, nouns in Spanish can be either masculine or feminine, and so can adjectives.

VERB ESTAR
The second “to be” verb in Spanish, estar, is used to describe location, health, or any condition that is only temporary. In the above example, you certainly don’t expect to be sick or lost forever.
The verb “estar” has a straight-forward conjugation in the present tense:

Ser is used to express the hour, day, and date. Ser is used to express place of origin. Ser is used to express occupation. Ser is used to express nationality. Ser is used to express religious or political affiliation. Ser is used to express the material something is made of
