IB Drop Policy

Any student can drop out of the IB Program. Once the student decides to drop IB, the student must inform the IB Coordinator and counselor so that the students schedule can be changed to a non-IB schedule by the counselor. However, the process does not guarantee that a student can immediately change his/her schedule. Once the student opts out of the IB Program, he/she will not be reinstated.

Students are asked in the spring prior to registering for the next years’ courses if they wish to stay or leave the IB program. Students staying will complete an IB Registration form and students leaving must inform the IB Coordinator and counselor.

RHS realizes that students in IB are required to take advanced/honors level classes in which they may not excel. However, in order to maintain the integrity and emphasize the serious rigor of the IB program, the following requirements have been set and must be met in order to stay in the IB program:
  • Students should try earn grades of "C" or better in all courses. Rowland has a "No D" policy for honors, AP, and IB classes. Students who receive a failing grade will be placed on probation.
  • Students must maintain at least a 2.0 G.P.A. If they fall below, students will be placed on probation and may be dropped.
  • An "F" in any core class may be grounds for immediate dismissal from the IB program.
  • All dismissals from the program are decided on an individual basis.
