Student Leadership Opportunities

FCCLA - Family, Career and Community Leaders of America

Join more than 244,000 middle and high school student members from over 5,300 chapters across the nation. FCCLA's Ultimate Leadership Experience equips members with real-world skills through Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) education. FCCLA prepares members for careers through its four Career Pathways: Human Services, Hospitality and Tourism, Education and Training, and Visual Arts and Design.

FCCLA members will strengthen skills, forge friendships, and make a positive difference in today’s world by participating in Competitive Events, serving in leadership positions, attending national conferences, networking with youth leaders, and attaining essential college- and career-ready skills.

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a Career and Technical Student Organization that functions as an integral part of the Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) education curriculum and operates within the school system. Since 1945, FCCLA members have been making a difference in families, careers, and communities by addressing important personal, work, and societal issues. Through participation in Competitive Events, becoming involved in community service opportunities, student leadership, and attending leadership conferences, members develop real world skills, explore Career Pathways, and become college- and career-ready.

  • FCCLA is integrated into Family and Consumer Sciences education exposing students to work-based learning as well as business and industry experiences.
  • FCCLA engages students in industry awareness and through Competitive Events and scholarship opportunities.
  • FCCLA provides real world skills: productivity and accountability, flexibility and adaptability, initiative and self-direction, leadership and responsibility.
  • Membership is open to all students
  • Complete application and submit $12.00 membership fee for students with ASB card, $15 without.
  • Members participate in the following; student leadership, community service, campus meetings, club events and regional, state, and national competitions.
  • Competition is restricted to students who are or have been enrolled in any FCS, Industrial Technology, Visual Art Design or Business classes in high school or middle school.
  • Competitive events include the following; Chapter Events - Chapter Activities Manual, Chapter Website design; Individual or team Events - Sports Nutrition, Event Planning, Focus on Children, Hospitality, Tourism, and Recreation, Entrepreneurship, Food Innovations, Fashion Design, Interior Design, Nutrition and Wellness, Repurpose and Redesign, Professional Presentation, Salad Preparation and Culinary Arts events.
  • Competitors are required to complete 20 hours service - 10 hrs. Club & 10 hrs. community service.
  • Community service hours can be completed in various ways: planning & implementing activities for the needy or underprivileged; working with American Cancer Society; helping elementary school teachers with their projects; etc.
  • Competition component that is held at the Region level and the top 5 winners move on to the State level of competition.
  • For State CRE's, additional awards are provided for first place winners.  Second and third place winners may also receive additional recognition in some events. Top 2 at State are able to compete at the NATIONAL level held every summer in a different state.
