College Algebra [IB Math Studies (SL)] One-year course
9 10 11 12

Prerequisite: Algebra II with a "C" or better.

College Algebra has two main focuses. Firstly, this course serves as a bridge from algebra II to pre-calculus. The content covered reviews important concepts needed to be mastered prior to entering pre-calculus. After which, trigonometry is introduced to allow students to enter in pre-calculus with a better foundation of trigonometry. The second focus of the course is to prepare students for the Math Studies Standard Level assessment. Additional areas of study include set and logic, vectors, statistics and probability, and financial mathematics. The availability of a graphing calculator is required.

* This course may not be repeated for credit.
* This course meets the mathematics requirement for graduation.
* This course meets the University of California entrance requirements.
* This course meets the California State University entrance requirements.

Pre-Calculus/Trigonometry One-year course
9 10 11 12

Prerequisite: Algebra II and Geometry with a grade of "C" or better. (`B" recommended)

This course is intended for students who plan to continue the study of mathematics beyond high school and provide students with a strong foundation and background in preparation for Calculus. Students will discuss and investigate advanced algebraic techniques and graphically illustrate concepts used in mathematics, thus developing a natural and intuitive foundation for high mathematics. The study of trigonometry is introduces covering realistic applications and modeling connections among right triangle ratios, trigonometric functions, and circular functions, numerical applications of sum, difference, double-angle identities and graphing and solving trigonometric equations. Homework is assigned daily and the availability of a graphing calculator
(Texas Instruments TI-83) is required.
