Algebra 1
Dear Parent or Guardian,
I am excited to have your child enrolled in my Algebra 1 class this year. Your students will build on algebraic and geometric concepts. It develops advanced algebra skills such as linear equations, polynomials, systems of equations, quadratics, and concepts. To be effective in mathematics, students must learn to translate real-life situations to mathematical models and obtain solutions. It is my goal to help your child become a better Thinker, Communicator, and Contributor, which are goals we value here at RHS.
In order to ensure your child’s success, we must all work together as a team. The team consisting of the student, the parent or guardian, and myself. I will do everything I can to ensure that your child’s needs are being met. The students need to take on the responsibility of being focused and prepared to learn. Parents should feel free to call or email me anytime.
Your child’s grades will be earned based on a combination of tests, quizzes, homework, and participation. Tests and quizzes will account for approximately 70% of your child’s grade. Homework will count for approximately 20% and participation will consist of the remaining 10%. Your child will receive a progress report at least twice a semester. A = 90-100% B = 80-89.9% C = 67-79.9% D = 60-66.9% F = 0-59.9%.
Students need to take the responsibility for coming in prepared to learn. This requires them to attend class with the proper materials, completing homework assignments on time, following directions, and actively participating in class. It is essential that your child brings their Chromebook fully charged along with their charger every day. Homework is a necessary tool for your child to practice the concepts learned during the day’s lesson. Homework will be assigned and checked on a daily basis. In order for your child to earn full credit on their homework assignment, they must submit a photo of their completed assignment and bring in their work which will remain in their notebook and show their work. If a student fails to come prepared to class, it may result in a deduction of their homework points.
