U.S. History-Period 3

Course Description

Mrs S. Young

U.S. History

Per. 3

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome back to a new school year! My name is Mrs. Young and I am looking forward to working with you and your son or daughter this year. The goal for this class is that by the end of the school year, students will have gained a better understanding and appreciation for how the United States developed and its role in the world today. I also hope to instill in my students an active interest in the history and progress of the United States by helping them to become active members of society. In addition to being active society members, students will also be active Rowland Raiders through examples, lessons, and activities that will demonstrate the three Raider Goals: Thinkers, Contributors, and Communicators.

Expectations for this course:

  • This course requires that all students make use of the textbooks: The Americans – Reconstruction to the 21st Century and the supplemental text United States History.
  • Students must have a separate 3-ring binder with notebook paper for this class, and a pen or pencil everyday in class.
  • All assignments should be turned in on time. Late work will receive a maximum of half credit and will only be accepted if arrangements to do so have been made by the teacher and the student.
  • Truancy will earn students “0” for participation for that day. Tardies will also result in a 5 point deduction of the student’s total participation grade.
  • In the case of an excused absence, assignments may be made up. It is the student’s responsibility to obtain lecture notes and find out about missed assignments, and if there were any worksheets from the teacher.
  • A missed test can only be made up for excused absences and must be taken no later than one week from the day the test was originally given.
  • All work must be neat and legible. All papers and projects must have the student’s name, date and class period.

Classroom Rules:

  • Be respectful of one another and of the classroom.
  • Keep all food and drinks outside of the classroom.
  • Be in assigned seats (with an open mind and ready to learn!) when the bell rings.
  • Have all necessary materials in class.
  • Keep all distractions (cell phones, mp3 players, cosmetics, magazines, etc.) outside of the classroom.
  • Students are dismissed by the teacher and not by the bell.

Consequences:

  1. Warning
  2. Conference with teacher and/or lunch detention.
  3. Phone call home and/or conference with parents.
  4. Referral to administration.
