English 12 (Period 2,5-7)
Assignment Calendar
Course Description
English 12 is a college-preparatory English class with an emphasis on the study of British and world literature. Coursework will focus on the two primary skills of the English curriculum: reading and writing. In addition, students will have frequent opportunities to practice their speaking skills in both formal and informal settings. This is a Common Core standards-based course that is intended to prepare students for the rigors of college-level reading, writing, and speaking, as well as encouraging mastery of the three Raider Goals. Core literature will include: The Epic of Beowulf, The Canterbury Tales, The Tragedy of Macbeth, Kafka's The Metamorphosis, Miss Julie, The Sound of Waves, Swift's "A Modest Proposal," and a selection of British poetry. Additional titles may be added to the course, depending on time.
I have taught seniors for over 20 years and am aware of the challenges facing students at this time in their lives. I have high expectations, but I know that RHS seniors have the potential to meet and exceed them. If parents or students have questions and would like to contact me, please refer to the email address linked to this webpage.
