The Forensic Science course is designed to provide students with skills needed to prepare for a job as a Forensic Specialist. This class provides a challenging environment in which students are introduced to crime scene photography, evidence collection, fingerprinting techniques and classifications identification. Instruction includes: History of Forensic Science, Crime Labs, Rules of Evidence, Latent Print Fingerprint Classification, Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Photography, Evidence Collection and Preservation. Processing Evidence, courtroom Testimony, Forensic Nursing, Bloodstain Pattern analysis to name a few.

Forensic Science is the acquisition and analysis of scientific data for application of the study and resolution of crime, investigation, civil and regulatory issues, and criminal identification. National security concerns have helped fuel demand for skilled crime scene investigators, fingerprint technicians.

Positions in Forensic Science are now mostly civilian and are not only sworn officers. Some of the job titles are: fingerprint classifier, Forensic specialist, Latent Fingerprint Analyst,Identification Technician, Fingerprint Expert.

Student Outcome
 
Upon completion of the ROP Forensic Science class, each student will be able to demonstrate occupational specific communication and critical thinking skills. Demonstrate responsible work ethics. Demonstrate career and employment literacy, Demonstrate sffective use of technology.
 
Employment Outlook
The California Bureau of Criminal Identification (CCI) located in Sacramento employees Identification Specialists from entry-level technicians to supervisory levels. Many city and county police departments employ a staff of fingerprint classifiers. Classifiers employed by the CCI earn from $2,244 to $3,523 per month. Wages for county and city employees in this classification vary from area to area within the state. All jobs are civil service positions.
