Criminal Justice (Period 7)

Course Description

This course is an introductory class that gives a brief overview of the various components, structure, responsibilities, history and career options of the vast criminal justice system in the United States. We will discuss the roles of the enforcement, judicial and corrections sectors as well as the mechanics of law making and government. Students will learn the rights granted to the accused by the U. S. Constitution, federal, state and local statutory law, as well as case law that results from court decisions. We will explore the various local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, courts and correctional institutions as well as federal vs. state law.
