Medical Assisting (Period 5)
Course Description
Students are trained in medical assistant administrative and clinical skills which include: Answering telephones, greeting patients, updating and filing patient medical records, medical terminology, filling out insurance forms, handling correspondence, scheduling appointments, billing and bookkeeping.
Taking medical histories, recording vital signs, preparing patients for examinations, collecting and preparing laboratory specimens, basic laboratory testing, preparing and administrating medications and immunizations, drawing blood and performing electrocardiograms.
Students who complete 180 hours of classroom instruction and 200 hours of externship are eligible to take the State of California Medical Assistant Certification Examination.
