English 11 H/IB
Course Description
This course offers students experiences with British, World, and Contemporary works of literature. Students will analyze recurrent patterns and universal themes in significant pieces of literature. Students will extract pertinent information and analyze the organization, arguments and positions advanced in both written and oral works.
The central purpose for this course is to expose students to the literary tradition which is the foundation of our language and culture, as well to enable them to appreciate the literature of various cultures around the world. Building on skills and strategies previously acquired in earlier courses, students will continue to write and speak with a command of standard English conventions.
English 11 Honors is designed to give advanced students opportunities to formulate judgments about spoken and written messages and coherently convey a clear and distinct perspective, incorporating reasoning and critical thinking skills. As a component of their analysis of literature, students will learn to effectively integrate appropriate resources from beyond the literature to strengthen and support their writing and oral presentations.
