What is Green’s message or theme about The Fault In Our Stars? Each of the following ideas could be a theme discussed in depth about the novel. You will need to choose one of the topics and write a 2-3 page essay analyzing how that topic is portrayed as a theme or message in the novel.

Test on chapters 20-25. Pg 253 to end of the book.

Use this to study for test tomorrow from Pgs 279 to end of the book

Complete as many parts of the essay order to help you begin writing your paper.

Complete the pre writing activities to get thinking about your essay. Essay draft and final draft is in a separate assignment. Essay is DUE NO LATER then THURSDAY July 9th

Read and study through quizlet words number 16-30. Test will be tomorrow. Read your words and definitions to record on flipgrid.

As well read into the novel you will need to take some time to present a "deep thought" using several references from the book and help lead a discussion in your deep thoughts. This could be presenting a quickwrite, a analysis of setting or characters, it could be discussing evidence for a major symbol or theme.. etc. The presentation will look at:

1. How clearly and formally you present the topic (Presentation Matters!)
2. How you keep the discussion or presentation going 3 MINUTES at least in length. (Engage in conversation)
3. You use of evidence from the story or readings we do. (Quotes, pg #, references, & literal elements)
4. Any visual aids you use to help make your points of discussion (What you show everyone: writing or slides etc)

You may use screencastify or any screen recording program to record your presentations. (See example)

"Without pain, we couldn't know love" How true is this statement? In The Fault In Our Stars we see this change for Hazel. In Foer's story Here We Aren't, So Quickly he communicates how life can change so quickly. How do both deal with the ideas of pain & love. How does Foer project as worth of love? As you read, take notes on how the author uses repetition and how this develops the characters.

Respond thoughtfully. Here is an example from Mr. Hsiao of something he went through.

We all have our young teenage interest and my cliche hobby was martial arts. I start doing it when I was very little and did not stop doing it until my 20's. As I was training one day, I went up for flying roundhouse kick and landed wrong. I landed on a leg and heard a ripping sound. I thought I ripped my pants. I collasped as I landed on my leg and felt a little off but it didn't hurt. I did not realize until much later I tore a liagment. My acl or anterior curical liagment needed to be replaced through surgery. Needless to say that was beginning of the end of martial arts for me. After 15k operation and months of physical therapy I did go back but it wasn't the same. After sometime I stopped doing martial arts. I don't regret it but as one of the biggest problem I faced in my generation I would say I am blessed to not have to risk life just limb on a superficial issue.

Read and then close read Ch 12 about the meeting with Peter Van Houten. Examining characters think about the characters in the mix. What makes them important to this idea of living and dying?

The Fault in Our Stars is a story that deals with looking at passing away.

We used this week to look at death in different perspectives and today's assignment is examining how to live or pass on fulfilled. Creating a Bucket Lists is really not meant for the dead but an exercise for those that are alive. So create a list of most daring and awesome things you want to do or achieve then tell us why.

1. Choose 8 achievements, tasks, adventures, events, places, & anything you can imagine that you want to fulfill in your life before you die.
2. You will create a slide presentation with at least 10 slides (more is fine) with brief explanation of the bucket list item and a visual (pic)
