Due:
Attached is your final assignment for the year! I am giving you until our scheduled "final" to turn this in, so please put some time and thought into the writing. It helps me to plan for next year!
Due:
Good luck on your exams this week!
We're almost there! For the last prep I wanted to create the most helpful assignment that I can. Many of you have expressed concern about the time limit of the test. I want you to be as focused as possible, and not over-worried about time! So, I have created an assignment for you on AP Classroom that consists of two passages. For each of the passages do the following:
1. Set a timer for 10 min. before you begin to read the passage.
2. In that time, read, analyze and take notes using the arch method (what the author is doing and how they are doing it) Identify and mark the rhetorical choices that you would write about in an essay.
3. Type a thesis into the box.
Were you able to finish in 10 min or less? If so, do you think you have enough understanding and evidence to write a quality paper? If not, how much did you go over, or how far in the process did you get?
For the second passage, do the same thing, but try to cut down a min. or two. If you can do this well in 10 min or less, you are ready! If you went way over the time, you need to keep practicing until you can get to something manageable. I can post more passages if you want me to, so let me know!

Here is the link to the demo, but I think you also should receive an email with more instructions/resources. You don't need your E-ticket to take the practice exam.
Due:
I have attached an AP passage for you to analyze. You DO NOT need to write an essay. Follow the directions on the page, which asks for a thesis and evidence. Remember, AP is looking for thesis statements that address the author's purpose/message, as well as how they achieve that purpose/message. What they don't want is a list of rhetorical devices.
Have this complete before our Thursday class meeting so that we can discuss in groups. (Yes, we're going to try zoom breakout groups again).

Due:
Log onto AP classroom and complete the assigned FRQ. You will be timed for 45 min, so make sure you have time to complete it at one time. Try to work on the skills that we discussed individually during your conference.
Please submit before our class time on Monday!

Due:
Share your 2 paragraphs with the person you are paired with on the doc below. Give each other feedback based on the number of rhetorical choices analyzed in the paragraph, and how well they are used. Submit on a google doc when complete.
Due:
For the following assignment, you will need to thoroughly read the attached docs before you begin. The Appeals doc addresses some of the issues that I talked with many of you about: using multiple devices in a paragraph to show how the author constructs his/her argument. The Syntax doc gives a brief (but effective) reminder about how to discuss syntax, as well as several phrases to use in analysis.
So, after you read those docs, the first assignment is to read the attached essays and label the appeals the writer uses, as well as other rhetorical choices that he/she makes. Then, write a body paragraph (about the same length as you would in a timed essay, no one page paragraphs!) discussing appeals and several other rhetorical/syntactical choices that they make to further their message or purpose. Try to include 3-4 of these choices as well as the relevant appeals. THIS type of writing is what will get you the highest score on the evidence part of the rubric.
*This needs to be complete by Wednesday because I will be having you exchange paragraphs and providing feedback to your classmates. I will post a list of directions and partners on Wednesday.

If it is helpful, I can also schedule small group meetings to discuss specific strategies. Please let me know--I'm here for you!
