Coursework will focus on the three primary skills of the English curriculum: reading, writing, and speaking. This is a Common Core standards-based course that is intended to prepare students for the rigors of college-level reading, writing, and speaking, as well as encouraging mastery of the three Raider Goals. Core literature will include: The Epic of Beowulf, The Canterbury Tales, The Tragedy of Macbeth, and Like Water for Chocolate. Additional titles may be added to the course, depending on time.I have taught seniors for over 25 years and am aware of the challenges facing students at this time in their lives. I have high expectations, but I know that RHS seniors have the potential to meet and exceed them. If parents or students have questions and would like to contact me, please refer to the email address linked to this webpage.

Choose one of the following prompts and then compose a well-organized paragraph. Review Notes #1 for advice concerning proper paragraph structure.
- What is the most important lesson you learned over the last three years of high school?
- What is the one thing you are most looking forward to after graduation?
Additional Requirements and Suggestions
- Remember that your paragraph should open with a topic sentence that functions as a thesis statement and includes two reasons. You may use this sentence frame to help you structure your topic sentence: “__________ is the most important lesson I learned (or the one thing I am most looking forward to after graduation) because __________ and __________.”
- Since this is a take-home writing assignment, I prefer that it be typed. However, you may write it legibly in ink or pencil.
- Your paragraph must be a minimum of six sentences, but it may be longer.
