Complete work on our Chapter 4 Notes:
Electronegativity (4 Facts):
Electronegativity is a chemical property that describes the ability of an atom to attract electrons towards itself in a covalent bond
A measure of the ability of an atom in a chemical compound to attract electrons
Fluorine is the highest with a value of 4.0, Francium is the lowest with a value of approximately 0.5
Electronegativity decrease down a group and increases across a period
Ionic Radii (4 facts):
Ionic Radius is the distance from the center of the nucleus to the average of the electron cloud (90 % rule) after it loses or gains electron(s)
Cations (metals): lose e-, the electron cloud gets smaller (more p+ then e-)
Anions (nonmetals): gain e-, the electron cloud gets larger (more e- then p+)
Ionic Radius:
Cations increase down a group and decrease across a period.
Anions increase up a group and decrease across a period.

Continue Chapter 4 "The Periodic Table"
Continue work on our Chapter 4 Notes:
Ionization Energy (4 Facts):
1. Ionization energy is the energy required to remove the greatest energy level electrons (valence e-), from an atom or ion.
2. Ionization energy is the energy needed to overcome the attractive forces between the protons and electrons.
3. The units are KJ/mole.
4. Trends: Ionization Energy Decreases down a group, and Increases across a period
Electron Shielding (4 Facts):
1. Is the reduction of the attractive force between a positively charged nucleus and its outermost electrons.
2. The shielding effect describes the decrease in attraction between an electron and the nucleus in any atom with more than one electron shell/level
3. The inner electrons act like a charge fence between the nucleus and the valance electrons.
4. Trends: Electron Shielding Decreases down a group, and Increases across a period
