One growth area in students' writing for rhetorical analysis is this: in a topic sentence, a student promises x rhetorical device will be discussed in the paragraph, but the paragraph hardly contains discussion or exploration of the said device. A successful body paragraph will promise a rhetorical device, or two, in the topic sentence, perhaps provide some context for the use of the device. Ultimately, the writer should explain the purpose, function, and effect of the rhetorical device chosen, and how it is consequential to the idea in the thesis statement.

At the start of each period, read the MCQ practice question and select the best answer on the weekly Google Form.
At the bottom of each MCQ portion, you will be asked to justify your answer: (1) explain why your response is the best; (2) explain why another choice is incorrect; OR (3) add a link to an explanation from an internet search.
The Form will collect your responses for the entire week. If we don’t have school on a given day, or you are absent, simply skip the day. Don’t forget to submit the Form at the end of the week to receive points.
Though you will not be graded on this informal daily assignment, know that this is practice for the MCQ portion of the AP Lang Exam.
I will conduct random spot checks to see if you are completing the work as intended.
