New Do you want to recognize and reward a teacher, advisor or coach who has made an impact in your life? The company that published our yearbook, Herff Jones, is hosting a Teacher Shout Out Competition. From now until March 15th go to teachershoutout.com, click on the “Send a Shout Out” link to access the Teacher Shout Out nomination form and nominate your teacher, coach or advisor. You will have to write something as to why the teacher/coach/advisor should receive this nomination. You may nominate more than one person. From March 16-April 30th, the teacher/coach/advisor with the most votes can win $2500 personally and $2500 for the school. If you want more information, come to the ASB Office.

New Rowland Theatre Presents Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Tickets are $8 pre-sale and $9 at the door. Shows are at 7pm on:

New Congratulations to Willie Wang who was selected as the winner and will now represent ARA at the region 15 ACSA Oratory Contest on March 7. 

New AP Tests are on sale NOW. Students will come to the ASB Office during their AP Class to register. Prices are as follows:
  • 2/11-2/28: $89 per test
  • 3/1-/3/15: $94 per test
  • 3/18-3/29: $99 per test
  • After 4/1/13: Permission from Mr. Perez and it will cost $114 per test
New Interested in biology? Planning to become a veterinarian or doctor? Want a good challenge? If so, you should participate in the National Biology Olympiad competition! The examination will be held free of charge for all students early February in Mr. Laughlin’s room, M2B. Top performers will advance to the semifinalist round. New Do you end your day after 5th period and want to leave at lunch? Drop of your card (before 10:30am) with Mrs. Raygoza in the front office and you will be able to pick it back up at lunch time. Starting next week, if you don’t have the PASS on your ID card, you will not be allowed to leave campus at lunch time.  

New We are pleased to announce that Rowland High School will be offering the ASVAB Career Exploration Program to our students on Monday, March 4th from 1:00-4:00pm in the library. The ASVAB scores, combined with results of an interest inventory, will assist your child when exploring a wide variety of educational and career options. The final date to sign up for the ASVAB is Tuesday, February 26th. Students should sign up with Mrs. DiBlasi in the front office or email her at [email protected]

Old News But Still Important
  • Yearbook price increased to $90 with or without ASB. Only 65 more yearbooks available.
  • ASB has school supplies for sale for discounted supplies.
  • You need to have a current parking permit. Come to the ASB Office to pick up an application.
  • Students: This is a reminder that you should bring your RHS school ID with you to school every day. It is needed to show office personnel, check out books, use computers, etc. 
  • Students may NOT paint their locker. If you paint your locker you will be charged a fee for vandalizing your locker. 
  • ASB sells birthday grams for $4.00 and are delivered during 3rd period. We also have baseball hats for $15.00 in various sizes. We also just received a shipment of spirit sweatshirts in all sizes. Various school supplies are also available for discounted prices. Come to the ASB Office to see what we have to offer.

New Service Academy Night is on March 14 at 7pm at the Diamond Bar Center for students interested in attending any US Service Academy (West Point, Navy, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine, Air Force).

New MT SAC will be in the in the Hideout to discuss Connect 4 and how to ensure GUARANTEED PRIORITY REGISTRATION FOR FALL OF 2013 on March 1st from 3:15pm-4:00pm. Please show up on time.

New MT SAC Application Workshops are on March 6th and 8th in the computer lab of the library from 12:25-2:00 pm.

New MT SAC Placement Test: We will be taking 50 students to MT SAC on April 12th. The bus departs at 8:00 am and we will be back on campus at 2:00pm. You MUST bring a sack lunch to get on the bus.Other dates on our campus TBA. Signup with Mrs. Hupman starting on Feb. 25th.

New Scholarship: Asian Pacific Community Fund Verizon. Ten $1,000 scholarships for graduating seniors planning to attend college in California, Oregon, or Washington. Deadline is 4/30/2013. Go to www.apcf.org/index.php/what-we-do/scholarship-fund

New The Visine Students With Vision Scholarship is now available. Several $5,000.00 scholarships. Minimum GPA of 2.8, deadline is March 1st. Go to aim.applyists.net/Vision to apply.

Scholarship: CALSA in partnership with De La Rosa & Co. is seeking to increase the number of successful Latino/Latino students  going to college .They are offering 15 scholarships to further the pursuit of higher education. Each scholarship is in the amount of $1,000 for graduating seniors. Go to calsa.org/2013/02/scholarship-application. April 7th is the deadline.

OSC- Operations Safe Communities Service Award for Rowland Unified Students. $500 service award scholarship. March 8, 2013 deadline. 

Eclipse Inc. African-American students, minimum 2.0 GPA. Deadline is March 9,2013 for submission. See Mrs. Valdez or Mrs. Garcia for the above.

Mahatma Rice/Univision Scholarship. $2,000 award. Essay required. March 1st is the deadline. Go to MAHATMARICE.com/SoCalif to apply.

4th Annual San Gabriel Valley Youth Summit is on Saturday, March 23rd from 8am – 3:30pm in El Monte. Free workshops, food, music, t-shirt for those who attend. FORUS Foundation Scholarship. Graduating senior with a minimum 2.5 G.P.A. $500 is the maximum amount. Applications are available from Mrs. Valdez and will be accepted Jan.1st-Feb.28th.

Senior News

Seniors who think that they may qualify for the Biliteracy Award, please come to room P-22 to pick up an application.  Please bring your transcript (from Homelink is O.K.) with you.  Applications are due on Friday, April 19th, 2013 by 3:00 pm.

Seniors: We want to hear about your college acceptances.  Bring your acceptance letters to your counselor so we can add you to the RAIDER SPOTLIGHT section of our website.

Attention Seniors: If you think you have perfect attendance for all 4 years of high school and/or all 12 years of school, please come see Sylvia Salone in the attendance office

Grad Nite tickets go on sale till Feb. 28th or till we run out of tickets. You MUST pay for the ticket when you turn in your permission slip.  All bills need to be paid prior to purchasing the ticket.   We only have 300 tickets.  Pick up a permission slip from the ASB Office.
