English 12

Course Description

*New Policy: Any student in English 12 who has earned a grade of 94% or better going into the Final Exam may choose not to take it.

English 12 is a college-preparatory English class with an emphasis on the study of British and world literature. Coursework will focus on the two primary skills of the English curriculum: reading and writing. In addition, students will have frequent opportunities to practice their speaking skills in both formal and informal settings. This is a Common Core standards-based course that is intended to prepare students for the rigors of college-level reading, writing, and speaking, as well as encouraging mastery of the three Raider Goals. Core literature will include: The Epic of Beowulf, The Canterbury Tales, The Tragedy of Macbeth, and Like Water for Chocolate. Additional titles may be added to the course, depending on time.

I have taught seniors for over 25 years and am aware of the challenges facing students at this time in their lives. I have high expectations, but I know that RHS seniors have the potential to meet and exceed them. If parents or students have questions and would like to contact me, please refer to the email address linked to this webpage.
