The John A. Rowland High School
Administrative Team has always seen and continues to see our school
as a work in progress. They understand the need to keep pace with
industry and university standards in order to provide our students
with the most up-to-date opportunities for learning and better
prepare them for the future. Their vision has resulted in Rowland
High School receiving a six-year WASC Accreditation in 2007 as well
as being named a California Distinguished School in 1996 & 2004
and a National Blue Ribbon School in 1998.
In November 1999,
we were invited to attend the National Blue Ribbon Ceremony held at
the Washington Hilton in Washington D.C. In addition, our Visual and
Performing Arts Department was one of only eight schools in the
nation to judged by the U.S. Department of Education as having
"exemplary programs in the Special Emphasis Areas of Arts
Education." Out of those eight, John A. Rowland High School was
one of only three schools chosen to give a presentation at the
National Blue Ribbon Ceremony.
In 2005, Rowland's Career
Technology Education was recognized as one of the top 12 Exemplary
Programs in the State.
California Distinguished School In 1996 & 2004, John A. Rowland High School was named a California Distinguished School. Receiving this honor means that the State Department of Education considers our school one of the top schools in California. The application process included submitting a 15 page comprehensive report highlighting the accomplishments of our school and providing evidence of the excellence of our school and it's programs. A state committee then visited Rowland High to meet with all stakeholders, view the evidence, and validate the accuracy of our application. In May 1997, we were invited to attend the California Distinguished School ceremony held at Disneyland Hotel to receive recognition as a state distinguished school. In addition, our Visual & Performing Arts English/Government/Economics class (VAPA) was chosen to perform the finale at the California Blue Ribbon Ceremony. Only seven schools in the state were asked to perform at the ceremony.
National Blue Ribbon School In 1998, John A. Rowland High School was named a National Blue Ribbon School with Special Honors in the area of Visual and Performing Arts. This distinction means that the United States Department of Education recognizes Rowland High School as one of the top schools in the nation. Before applying to be a National Blue Ribbon School a school must have first been named a Distinguished School by their state. The application process for Blue Ribbon status included submitting a comprehensive 42-page report describing the school environment, our challenging instructional program, unique opportunities we offer to our students, and our various achievements. In addition, we applied for special recognition of our fine arts programs. The report was reviewed by a state committee and then by a national committee in Washington D.C. Members of the national committee visited our school to meet with all stakeholders, view evidence and validate the accuracy of our application. Our Visual and Performing Arts portion of the application included submitting a video of student work and performances to the national committee.
