John Paine, Educator & Athletic Director (retired): Graduated Class of 1966

John served as Vice President of his senior class and was a member of our Varsity Football and Track and Field teams. After graduation he joined the Merchant Marines and then was drafted into the United States Marine Corp. When he mustered out, John went back to school with the goal of being a teacher but, because teaching positions far and few between, he turned to a number of other ventures ranging from managing a Country Rock band and building hot air balloon baskets to becoming the sales manager of a large lumber company. However, his passion was to teach and coach so, at the age of 48, he secured a teaching position at Apple Valley Middle School. He also coached basketball, track and field, and served as the President of the High Desert Athletic Middle Schools. He went on to become a Professor of Physical Education and Health Science at Victory Valley Community College where he was responsible for reviving its track and field program, was the coach of the women’s softball team, and served as the Men’s Athletic Director. In addition, he served as a Professor of Physical Education for Elementary School Educators at the University of La Verne and Chapman University before retiring this year.

Roxanne Lettman Pompa – Vice President Sales & Production: Graduated Class of 1983

Roxanne began her career as an intern in the KTLA newsroom working her way up to production assistant, assignment editor, and field producer.  After six years with KTLA she accepted a position as Associate Producer of Comedy Compadres – the All-Latino Stand-up Comedy Show.  In 1998, she became the Director of Development for Telemundo-Sony Network where she helped to produce 130 episodes of The Dating Game and The Newlywed Game. Ready for a change in direction Roxanne jumped into the corporate world and landed a position as the Director of International Program Development & Format Sales at Sony Pictures Television. She continued her career as the Director of International Sales and Production for CBS Studios International where she was in charge of the production and sales of several internationally known shows including America’s Next Top Model, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy!, Taxi, and Cheers and she is currently the Vice President of International Sales and Production of CBS Studios International.  A dynamic person, she is vigorous in balancing her life as a corporate executive, wife (of comedian Gene Pompa), and a mother of a 16-year old daughter, Bianca Pompa.
