Ms. Smith - Social Studies Teacher

Welcome to Social Studies!

My name is Leslie Smith, and I am thrilled to be serving as a History-Social Studies teacher at John A. Rowland HS. This year makes for my 21st year in Southern California in education. I am continually exploring ways to increase student engagement and achievement through rigorous curriculum, research-based strategies and technology integration.

Before coming to Rowland, I served as project director for two Teaching American History grants in the Inland Empire and on numerous history education and curriculum committees. In an effort to increase technology use and close the digital divide, the students in my classes will be involved in creating digital reports, digital storytelling, blogging, digital collaboration, and much more. I continue to learn from my collaborative experiences and remain dedicated to improving my instructional practice.

Homework:

Homework, class announcements, resources, and handouts are posted on Google Classroom. If you would like an account that gives you access to your student's page, please contact me by email at lsmith@rowlandschools.org for an access code.

The sign in for student google accounts has changed. Please use the instructions below to sign into your account and then join the class.

Another feature that I am using to help ease communication with students is the smart phone app, Remind. It allows me to text students in my classes and make announcements that students will receive as text messages on their phone, while preserving their privacy. They can also use this app to ask me questions via text. This is not required but highly recommended.  The easiest way to join is for students to text the codes listed below for their specific class period to this number: 81010
