Mr. Bruce Boyd

When I graduated from high school, my parents gave me the exact present I had asked for, a boxed edition of A.L. Rowse's Annotated Shakespeare. Somewhere along the way, someone had instilled in me a passion for great books. Perhaps it was my sophomore English teacher Nani Katzenstein, but it was probably my mother, who I remember always had a book in her hands.

I earned my bachelors degree in English from Cal State Fullerton in 1982. In 1984, I began teaching at Rowland High School. I earned a masters degree in English literature from Cal State Fullerton in 1989. Then, in 1994, I moved to Rincon Intermediate School to teach middle school children. From the closure of Rincon in 2011 to the present, I have returned to complete my 35+ year career.

While serving this community, I have had many interesting experiences. Perhaps my most memorable experience occurred in 2005 when I received a grant from the Japan Fulbright Memorial Fund. As a guest of the Japanese government, I visited four public schools and one kindergarten in Tokyo and Kakuda, a small city bordering Sendai in the Miyagi Prefecture. The experience was very enlightening, and sobering as the 2011 earthquake devastated this part of Japan.
