View the attached video for a walk-through and specific instructions for the assignment. You will turn it in digitally here on classroom as either an individual OR a group. You may choose your own groups (up to 5 people) within your class period.

**One person per group turns in your groups' powerpoint and annotated documents. Make sure all names are on both**

Steps:
1. Read and annotate your "Virtual Stalin Documents" copy using the highlighter and comment tools - As a group, share ONE document to annotate
2. Complete the powerpoint by sourcing, summarizing, and analyzing 10 brief documents to answer the question "What made Stalin an effective leader and what made him a terrible leader?" - As a group, share ONE powerpoint and only write on your own slides

For analysis, make sure you address the essential question. A sentence frame to help is, "This quote shows that Stalin is a ________ (effective or terrible) leader because..." You may also analyze the significance of sourcing information in the analysis box since there is not room in the sourcing box.

Hi all,
Please read all instructions. This is a time where I am trying to answer everyone's questions, so I need you to do your part, too, by reading directions.

So this is the first Extra Credit Assignment. This means that you don't have to do it, but that if you choose to, you will receive credit for it towards your grade. You have several options as to how to complete this assignment:
1. You can type up your answers on a Google Doc.
2. You can answer the questions on your own sheet of paper.

I am attaching pictures of the document and questions here.

Submitting your work:
1. If you complete it online, you can submit it here through the classroom.
2. If you do it on paper, you can EITHER take a picture and submit here in the classroom, OR you can hang on to it until we get back to class. If you are going to just hang on to it, please LET ME KNOW in private comments.

"Lenin Establishes the Cheka" is an opportunity for us to examine the decisions of Lenin and his leadership style based on his own words and actions. As you do this assignment, be sure to do the following:
** Read the primary source letter
** Answer the 6 connecting questions
1. What rules are stated in the letter?
1B. What does Lenin write is the reason for these rules
2. How is the wealthy class undermining the revolution?
3. Who does the letter consider the wealthy class?
4. Does this letter reveal bias? Why or why not?
5. What can be assumed about Dzerhinsky?
** Consider and answer in private comments (or a google doc and attach, or your own piece of paper)
1. What does this letter tell us about Lenin's concerns?
2. What does this tell us about Lenin's leadership style?
3. Why might the Cheka be needed?
4. How does this help us understand to what degree the revolution was successful in meeting its goals?
5. How might this connect to anything going on in our current situations (nationally or globally)?

View the video describing the extra credit assignment. This is an individual assignment you will turn in on Google Classroom, and is NOT MANDATORY.

Steps:
1. Read the THREE NewsELA documents attached entitled "The Chinese Revolution of 1911," "The Chinese Revolution of 1949," and "Mao's Cultural Revolution: All You Need to Know About China's Social and Political Convulsion." As you read, jist each paragraph using the Google Document.
2. After reading and jisting, create each reading's accompanying timeline, multi-flow map, or chart. Choose significant events rather than "interesting ones," like "I was born." Make sure timeline events are in chronological order. Revolutions you can compare and contrast with include the French Revolution, the Haitian Revolution, the Mexican Revolution, and the Russian Revolution.
