Due:
Instructions are posted on the PDF file. When you submit your assignment, the initial grade will be for the essays, hence worth 30 points in Classroom. However, I will distribute the points in Aeries and it will be reflected in your gradebook. Please let me know if there are any issues with the due date. I know you will be in the middle of AP testing, but I also need to give myself enough time to grade it so you know your final grade for the class.
Due:
Please read over the feedback for your Beloved essay. If you are interested in completing a rewrite, please include a thesis and body paragraph. Remember to include focused literary devices/figurative language in your body paragraph.
Due:
Happy Sunday, AP LIT! I posted the weekly activities for 5/4-5/8. You will need to log into AP Classroom to access the FRQ passages. This will be the last practice before the exam so I want you to work with only two passages narrowing in on thesis statements, body paragraphs, and topic sentences. Remember that your body paragraph should focus on a literary device/element or figurative language. Your topic sentence should set up that analysis and be focused. From your topic sentence alone, I should anticipate what the entire body paragraph looks like. Please submit your work in Google Classroom on a Google Doc.
If you would like feedback, please let me know.

Happy Friday, AP LIT! I posted the weekly activities for 4/27-5/1. You will need to log into AP Classroom to access the FRQ passages. For these activities, I want you to practice writing so for each FRQ, you will need to write a thesis statement and body paragraph. Remember that your body paragraph should focus on a literary device/element or figurative language. Since you will have an essay on Friday, May 1st, you only have two passages to look at for the week. Please submit here in Google Classroom on a Google Doc.
If there is one that you would like me to take a closer look at and provide feedback, please let me know.

Happy Easter!
I updated the AP Prep Google Slide with this week's work. We will be focusing on previous Question 2 prompts. Similar to last week, I want you to quickly practice reading over a passage and write a thesis statement. Please feel free to complete your work on a Google Doc and submit your assignment.

Due:
I want everyone to practice reading a passage and/or poem quickly and coming up with a thesis statement. The passages/poems will be from the packet of released AP Exam Questions. Feel free to write your thesis statements on a Google Doc and upload the work. Please review the slides for 4/6-4/10 which specifies which questions you will be writing thesis statements for.

Directions: The following excerpt from The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood occurs while Offred is shopping with her partner, Ofglen. Read the passage carefully. In a well-written essay, analyze how Atwood employs literary devices to reveal the values of the character and the nature of society (Gilead).
You have 45 minutes to complete your essay. Please make sure that it is uploaded by 4:50 pm.

After today's discussion with 7th period, it only made sense to revamp the practice prompt for The Handmaid's Tale and the in-class essay for the novel to look far more like Question 2 rather than an open-ended prompt. I made an excerpt from the novel (530 words, which mimics the length you will get on the exam) and would like you to write a thesis statement and two body paragraphs for your practice prompt. If you would like feedback on your thesis statement, please feel free to email/message before submitting your practice prompt on the assigned due date.
Your in-class essay will be similar to this practice prompt. In addition, I will do the same for Beloved. When you write your essay on Friday, April 10th, it will simulate what the AP exam looks like - 45 minutes to write and then submit.

Due:
Create a bookmark. You can literally use any piece of paper, although something far more sturdy would be better. What I did was make the width of the bookmark the same as a ruler, but if you do not have a ruler readily available, you can eyeball it. On your bookmark, you should include an image that connects with the novel and a quote/passage that you find memorable or relevant. This assignment will be included in multiple categories: Project, Essay (small points!) and Participation. Please submit a photo of your bookmark in this folder and share your bookmark in Hangouts; it would be great to see everyone's work!

At the start of Chapter 23, Offred states the following: "This is a reconstruction. All of it is a reconstruction" (134). She plans to "get out of [Gilead]" because it cannot last forever. Reflect how this relates to the current state of affairs, but also make sure to connect back to the novel. Please respond in 500 words (give or take).
