Rhetorical Preci in Google Classroom

Rhetorical Preci

Have a source for your research paper (that is not too long like a book or too brief - an essay or journal would be good) read and understood. Then complete a four sentence rhetorical preci.  You received the packet in class that explains this 4-sentence structure.  The first page of the packet has an explanation of a preci, the sentence by sentence description, and the template.  The second page has an example of a preci.  The 3rd page has another description of each sentence, a frame and a model/example.  The fourth page on the backside has an additional frame for the four sentences.  You just need to do one 4-sentence preci for one of your sources.  Type the sentences and submit them to turnitin.com.  You can then use this framework and style of summary in your research paper (it is an optional but not mandatory way of summarizing and utilizing a source) and later on in AP Language if you like.

Romantic Poems Analysis in Google Classroom

Romantic Poems Analysis

Choose any 20 of the analysis questions to answer about the Romantic Poems other than the 2 poems that your group has done.  These could include the 4 questions for "To A Waterfowl", even though no group is presenting it.  This does not include the questions for "The Raven" or "Within the Circuit of This Plodding Life" because you already did them.  You do not necessarily have to do all of the questions for any poem - you can pick and choose; your document just needs to have a total of 20 questions addressed.  Try to do this work before the poem is presented.  Do not copy the questions. Be sure to label every poem and question clearly.  Practice using citations from the poems for evidence.  Use the line number for the parenthetical citations.  If the question has more than one part, then be sure to answer each part. Analyze the poems as thoroughly as you can; just do the best you can - it is for practice. Submit your document to turnitin.com.

"The Fall of the House of Usher" Slides in Google Classroom

"The Fall of the House of Usher" Slides

You will make google slides and a poster; make both the slides and posters decorative and aesthetic. On the poster put your groups' assigned topic as a title (It is either Roderick, The Narrator, Madeline, Symbolism or Ambiguity), illustrate your character(s) and/or literary device, the setting or any images from the story, perhaps some language from the story, and few concise insights.  Minimal language, BIG font size.  Use up all of the poster - try not to leave any dead space.  I would like to decorate the room with them, so make the look as good as possible.  For the google slides, use an effective slide style, and find some online pictures (video clips if possible and applicable) to accentuate your presentation. Put everyone's name on the first slide and your group's topic. Analyze your topic in depth, use literary terminology, and come up with an overall theme/meaning about your topic. Do NOT put every single word that you are going to say on your slides. The words on your slides can be concise, brief, LARGE FONT, and to the point. When you present, you will elaborate on the words on your slides; you can use flash cards, your phone, or a tablet, but also try to know and memorize what you will say.  Also, choose 3-5 relevant passages from the story that support and connect to your analysis (discuss and analyze them, not just read them, during your presentation). You can attach audio to your slides (such as with screencastify) if you want and know how to do so, but that is not a requirement.  One thing you will do is post these slides to the stream of the Google Classroom so that your classmates have access to them for review and study purposes.  Delegate different responsibilities to members of the group (illustrators, speakers, writers/editors, slide designers, etc.), but be sure to come together to make sure it is all synchronized.  Everyone should speak about something (the poster or a passage or about a slide, etc.) during the presentation. Share your slides with me so that I can put them on the screen for you to present to everyone else. Also, on a separate google document put all of your groups' thoughts and analysis - copy and paste them to one google document (including your elaboration, but not your passages), and submit this document to turnitin.com so that I know your analysis is original. Only one of you in the group needs to submit this, and it should have everyone's words. All together, your presentation, including followup questions and answers, may take about 20-30 minutes.

Practice Paragraphs about "Resistance to Civil Government"

Type up a practice introductory paragraph and one body paragraph about Thoreau's essay. You are typing two paragraphs total.  Practice timing yourself - see what you can come up with in 30 minutes. There is no specific prompt - you can take any approach to it that you prefer.  You might analyze what argument or arguments of Thoreau's are most convincing, what is a theme of the essay and how does Thoreau develop that theme throughout the essay, or what relevance the speech has to today's social and political climate.  Or you might find a prompt about it online. Either way, be sure to base it all around analysis of literary topics (diction, paradox, metaphor, etc.). The first paragraph should include your thesis. The second paragraph, your body paragraph, should focus on one literary topic, provide examples of it, and analyze what meaning it creates in relation to your thesis.

When you cite passages refer to the paragraph number. Be sure to include an introduction, two-three topics, a thesis, a topic sentence, evidence, commentary, and finish with a transition.  You may want to also consider using counter arguments.

Patrick Henry Practice Writing

Type up a practice introductory paragraph and one body paragraph about the speech. You are typing two paragraphs total.  Practice timing yourself - see what you can come up with in 30 minutes. There is no specific prompt - you can take any approach to the speech that you prefer.  If you need a prompt, then use one of these:
1. Analyze Henry's usage of language and argue whether or not the speech is adequately persuasive.
2. How is Henry's use of language and rhetorical strategies emblematic of an 18th century mindset and consider whether the speech is still relevant today or not.

When you cite passages refer to the paragraph number (there are only 6). Be sure to include an introduction, two-three topics, a thesis, a topic sentence, evidence, commentary, and finish with a transition.
